Our Standards
MunchieCooking publishes fixes, quick recipes, desserts, snacks and ingredient guides. This page explains how those get made, checked and corrected, and where the wall sits between the editorial side and the commercial one. It is meant to be held against us.
Testing: We Break It First
Every recipe is cooked before publication, then cooked again from the edited text by someone following the words literally rather than reconstructing it from memory. That second pass is where ambiguous instructions get caught.
Troubleshooting content gets an extra step that most sites skip. Before we tell you why something failed, we cause the failure deliberately and compare it against the control. If a guide claims that butter creamed too warm gives a flat cookie, that comparison was baked side by side on one sheet from one batch of dough. If it claims a sauce breaks above a certain temperature, we took it there and watched it break.
Baking guides that hinge on a ratio are tested across the range, not at one point. A ganache guide that gives three ratios means three ganaches were made and set.
Equipment and Measurement
- Ordinary kitchens only. A home oven verified against its own thermometer, since most read ten to fifteen degrees off the dial. A hand mixer as often as a stand mixer. A countertop air fryer, a standard skillet, a standard sheet pan.
- Weights first in baking, with volumes alongside. A cup of flour swings by more than thirty grams depending on how it was filled, and that swing is most of the difference between a chewy cookie and a dry one.
- Times come as ranges tied to a sensory cue, because appliances differ. What the batter looks like beats what the timer says.
- Stated times are honest. Twenty minutes includes the chopping, and hands-off time is labeled as hands-off.
Sourcing
Claims about why things behave the way they do are checked against food science literature, professional baking references and manufacturer specifications rather than against other blogs. Where a source exists, we link to the original rather than to someone’s summary of it.
Where the evidence is thin or the mechanism is genuinely disputed, we say so instead of choosing the version that reads more cleanly. When a familiar piece of kitchen advice fails our own comparison, we publish the failure.
Nutrition and the Word Healthy
Nutrition figures on this site are estimates calculated from standard reference values for the listed ingredients and the stated yield. They are not laboratory analyses, and brand, ripeness, trimming and portioning all move them.
We use high-protein, high-fiber and similar terms only where we are prepared to print the number behind them. We do not use clean, guilt-free, sinful or detox, because those describe a mood rather than a food.
Substitutions and Allergens
Where we offer a gluten-free, dairy-free or egg-free swap, we say what it changes about the result, because these substitutions are rarely invisible. A swap is a culinary suggestion, never allergy guidance, and we say so on the page. Readers cooking for a diagnosed allergy have to verify every product label themselves, as set out in the Disclaimer.
Corrections
- Report the problem to [email protected] with the page, the step and what happened.
- You get an acknowledgement, usually on the next working day.
- We retest the disputed step wherever a retest is possible.
- Substantive corrections to a quantity, temperature, time or factual claim are made in the text and noted at the bottom of the article with a date.
- Typographical fixes and clarifications that do not change the meaning are made silently.
Older guides are revisited as well. When a page is meaningfully expanded or improved, the update carries a date.
Advertising and Sponsorship
Advertising pays for this site and is handled on a separate track from editorial. Advertisers do not preview articles, do not influence which subjects we cover, and cannot buy a positive verdict or the removal of a negative one.
Adverts on these pages are placed by automated systems rather than picked by an editor, and their appearance is not an endorsement of anything in them.
Where an article is sponsored, produced in partnership, or based on an ingredient or appliance supplied at no cost, that is disclosed in plain language at the top of the page before the content starts. Sponsored work is tested to the same standard as everything else, and we keep final control over what it says. Affiliate links, where they appear, are disclosed on the page.
Images
Photographs show the food that actually came out of testing, without inedible props standing in for ingredients. We do not illustrate a recipe with a stock photograph of a different dish. Licensed and contributed images are used within their licence terms and credited where the licence requires it.
Comments
Comments are moderated for spam, abuse, promotion and unsafe advice, and not for disagreement. A reader reporting that a ratio failed is handing us test data we could not have produced alone, and those reports have improved more pages here than any other single source.
