Cookie Policy

This page sets out the cookies and similar technologies used on munchiecooking.com, why each group exists, and how to turn the optional ones off. It works alongside the Privacy Policy, which covers personal data generally. Last updated September 2026.

What These Technologies Are

A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to keep and send back on later requests, which is how a site recognises the same browser across pages and visits. Cookies cannot read your files, see other applications or run programs.

Two related technologies appear here as well. Local storage holds data in the browser until it is cleared, and is often used instead of a cookie for preferences. Pixels are tiny image or script requests that confirm a page or an advert loaded.

Ours and Other People’s

First-party cookies come from munchiecooking.com and amount to two things: what the caching layer needs to serve a page, and the record of the cookie decision you made. Nothing else of ours is stored. Third-party cookies come from other companies whose code runs on the page, mainly the advertising partners who pay for the site. We can enable or disable that code, but the systems behind it are not ours.

How Long They Last

Session cookies disappear when the browser closes. Persistent cookies stay until they expire or you clear them. Here, persistent lifetimes range from hours or days for the caching cookies to two years for advertising and for the record of your consent decision.

The Four Categories

A consent tool sorts cookies into four groups. Two of them are populated here and two are empty, and the empty ones are described anyway rather than left to assumption.

Strictly Necessary

Not optional, because without them the site does not function. They cover security, load handling, defence against automated abuse, and the stored record of the consent choice you made, which we are obliged to keep so that we can demonstrate it.

Preferences

Empty. No language choice, interface setting or dismissed notice is stored. The only thing that survives from one visit to the next is your cookie decision, and that sits in the strictly necessary group above.

Measurement

Also empty. No cookie here counts readers. There is no analytics script on the pages, and nothing measures how long you keep a guide open, how far down it you go, or where you click. What we know about readership is how many times an address was requested, which comes out of the server access log and not out of a cookie.

Advertising

Set by our advertising partners. They choose which advert to serve, stop the same one repeating endlessly, check that an advert was genuinely visible, and identify invalid or automated traffic. With your consent they also use interest categories inferred from browsing to select adverts.

Turning this category off does not remove the adverts. It switches them to contextual, chosen from what the page is about rather than from anything inferred about you.

Your Consent

The consent banner appears on your first visit, provided by InMobi Choice under the IAB Europe Transparency and Consent Framework (TCF v2.3), and no advertising code runs until you answer it. Your answer can be changed whenever you like through the consent link in the footer.

Withdrawing consent stops further processing in that category. Cookies already saved need clearing in the browser as well, which is a step no website can perform for you. Because the record is per browser and per device, the choice needs making again on a different device or after a cookie clear.

Where your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a refusal of advertising and personalization for that browser without any extra action from you.

Browser Controls

Every current browser lets you inspect and delete stored cookies, block third-party cookies, and clear everything on exit. The settings sit under privacy or site settings in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge and Opera, and under site permissions on phones and tablets.

Blocking absolutely everything, including strictly necessary cookies, changes how this and most other sites behave. One visible symptom is that the consent banner returns on every single page, because the record of your decision has nowhere to be stored.

Industry Opt-Out Programmes

These set advertising opt-outs across many companies in one step:

They rely on cookies themselves, so clearing your cookies also clears these opt-outs.

Which Partners Are Active

Because the advertising is sold programmatically, the set of participating technology partners changes over time. The current list, with the purposes each one declares and a link to its own policy, is displayed inside the consent tool in the footer. We keep it there instead of duplicating it on this page, so that what you see is accurate on the day you look at it.

Updates

This page is revised whenever the technologies on the site change, and the date at the top moves with it. Material changes to the advertising category trigger a fresh consent request. Questions go to [email protected].
